Barry Brits—President & CEO
Barry is responsible for the growth and operations of the company. Prior to joining Beacon Power, he spent 15 years working for the global independent power producer, International Power plc. International Power America owned and operated 6,800 MW of fossil and wind generation in various grid operating regions of North America. In addition to financial responsibility, Barry was very involved in the operations and growth of business through construction and acquisitions as the company grew more than 10 times its size to revenue of more than $1 billion. Prior to joining International Power, Barry worked for Arthur Andersen and Rio Tinto, a global mining company. He is a Chartered Accountant (qualified in the United Kingdom) and has a degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.Done
James Arseneaux—Vice President of Engineering
Jim is responsible for developing advanced flywheel energy storage systems for grid applications. Since joining Beacon in 2000, Jim has been involved with flywheel designs from the initial 2 kWh Gen 1 model to leading the design of the current production flywheel. Jim was responsible for overall plant design and systems integration for the world’s first flywheel frequency regulation plant in Stephentown, NY. Prior to joining Beacon, he worked at General Electric and was in charge of mechanical systems design for jet engines, including the T700/Blackhawk and F414/F18 engines. Jim has a B.S. in Engineering from Tufts University and M.S. from Northeastern University and holds several patents for bearing system applications.Done
